How to Create a Flowchart in Xmind
Feb 16, 2022
At a Glance
Create a simple flowchart in Xmind using floating topics, shapes, borders, and arrows to map processes and link between maps. Xmind combines mind mapping and brainstorming tools to turn map elements into clear process diagrams.
Quick Steps
Create a new sheet and enable Advanced layout options Flexible floating topic and Topic overlap.
Delete main topics so the Central Topic is the start; add a border and change its shape to Terminal.
Double-click to add floating topics, update their shape to rectangle, then duplicate to build the process blocks.
Align blocks via right-click > Align: Distributed vertically, Center, then Middle for even spacing.
Add arrows with Command-Shift-R (Ctrl-Shift-R on Windows) and insert a block in another map, checking At Link for both topics to create a two-way portal.
Smart Tip
Use Command-Shift-R (Ctrl-Shift-R) to add arrows instantly and Command R to return to the Central Topic; enable Advanced layout first to keep floating topics flexible and avoid overlap.
