Why can't I open a .xmind file generated by a third-party AI tool?

Why can't I open a .xmind file generated by a third-party AI tool?

Some AI tools can generate files with the .xmind extension, but their internal structure may be incomplete or may not fully comply with Xmind's file format specification. As a result, Xmind may be unable to properly parse and open these files.

Instead, we recommend the following approach:

  1. Ask the AI tool to generate a Markdown (.md) file.

  2. In Xmind, import the file via Import > Markdown.

Compared with directly generating a .xmind file, Markdown files generally provide better compatibility and are the recommended format for importing AI-generated content into Xmind.

For detailed instructions on importing Markdown files, please refer to: Import a Markdown file

If you're using Codex or Claude, you can also use the Xmind MCP service to generate content that can be imported directly.
