Outliner

In addition to mind mapping, Xmind also provides an excellent way to organize your thoughts for list, notes, idea organizing and project management. Switching between Outliner mode and Mind Map mode helps more efficiently organize and sort ideas in your head.

Switch Between Mind Map and Outliner

On Web

Click Outliner in the lower-right corner to enter.

On desktop

There are two ways to switch the mind map to an outliner:

  • Click View in the menu bar, and click Outliner to enter.

  • Click Outliner in the lower-right corner to enter.

💡 Attention: Outliner Mode on the desktop is only supported for local files currently.

Basic Editing

Indent & Outdent

  • Click the Indent icon to move the selected topic to the lower level, and click the Outdent icon to move the selected topic to the upper level.

  • Shortcuts: Press Enter to add new topics, press Tab to indent, press Shift + Tab to outdent.

Insert

Select a topic, click Insert in the menu bar, and you can choose to insert a Note, To-Do, Task, Hyperlink, Label, Image, and even Equation!

Marker, Sticker and Illustration

Click the icon in the upper-right corner to add markers to the selected topics. You can also add stickers and illustrations from here!

Drag to Move Topics

Topics can be dragged freely to reorganize the hierarchical structure of content.

More Settings

Zoom In and Out

You can adjust the ratio in the lower-right corner, or use shortcut keys to zoom in or out.

Windows: Ctrl + + / -

Mac: ⌘ + + / -

Show Branch Only

You can use shortcut keys to choose to only show the selected topic.

Windows: Ctrl + ;

Mac: ⌘ + ;

Export

Click File in the top bar, and click Export to export the file in PDF, Markdown, Excel, Word, OPML, or TextBundle.

You can choose to export as a Mind Map or Outliner, and select which sheet or content to include.
