Create a mind map with AI in Xmind on Windows
Use Create with AI in Xmind on Windows to turn an idea, text, a file, a webpage, or a YouTube video into an editable mind map, work breakdown, or to-do list.

You can use Create with AI to turn an idea, a set of notes, or source material into an editable mind map. Enter a description of what you want to explore, paste text you have already written, or add a document, an image, a webpage link, or a YouTube URL. For example, you can organize meeting notes by decision and next step, or combine a project brief with supporting links to create an outline.
Before generating, you can choose the structure and language of your map and where to save it. You can also turn a project description into a work breakdown, or a short plan into a to-do list. After generation, you can edit the topics, add details, and rearrange the branches.
Create with AI uses AI credits and requires you to sign in to your Xmind account. The credits you have left appear at the bottom of the Create with AI window.
Create a mind map from an idea or text
-
In the Xmind home window, click Create with AI at the top of the sidebar. If a map is already open, click the Open Home button (the house icon) at the upper-left corner of the window to return to the home window.
-
Enter the idea you want to develop, or paste the text you want to organize. Describe the purpose of the map and what it should cover. For example, enter “Organize these meeting notes by decision, open question, and next step.”
-
Click Generate.
The generated content opens as an editable mind map. Review the topics and adjust them to suit your purpose.

Choose where to save the map
The menu in the upper-right corner of the Create with AI window shows where the generated map will be saved. Click it and choose one of the following:
-
All Maps: Saves the map to your cloud storage, so you can open it on your other devices.
-
Current Device: Saves the map as a local file on your computer.
If you belong to a team, the menu also lists your team spaces.

Create a mind map from source material
You can summarize a document, an image, a webpage, or a YouTube video, and add instructions about what the map should focus on. For example, attach a project brief and ask Xmind AI to organize its requirements by project phase.
-
In the Xmind home window, click Create with AI in the sidebar.
-
Add the text, file, or links you want to use with one or more of the methods below.
-
Enter any instructions for the map, such as “Group the requirements by project phase and include the main deliverables.”
-
Click Generate.
To add source material, use these methods:
-
Paste text into the input box.
-
Paste a webpage link or YouTube URL into the input box.
-
Click the paper-clip button in the lower-left corner of the input box and choose a file from your computer.
-
Drag a file into the Create with AI window.
The attached file appears in place of the paper-clip button. To remove it, click × next to its name.
In one generation, you can combine text of up to 10,000 characters, one file, and up to three links. The file can be a PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Text, or Markdown document of up to 50 MB, or a JPG, JPEG, or PNG image.

Choose a structure and language
Before generating a map, click More in the lower-right corner of the input box, then choose an option.
-
Structure: Choose how the topics are arranged: Mind Map, Logic Chart, Brace Map, Org Chart, Tree Chart, Timeline, or Fishbone. For example, a timeline suits events in order, and a fishbone diagram suits causes of a problem.
-
Language: Choose the language of the generated content. This lets you create a map in a different language from your source material. Leave it set to Auto to let Xmind AI decide.
After choosing the options, click Generate to create the map with those settings.

Turn a project description into a work breakdown
Use Work Breakdown to create a project plan with tasks, priorities, and timelines. Include the project goal, deliverables, and relevant dates so the generated plan has the context it needs.
-
In the Xmind home window, click Create with AI in the sidebar.
-
Enter your project description and add any supporting text, file, or links.
-
Click Work Breakdown below the input box. The button is highlighted when the mode is on.
-
Click Generate.
Review the generated tasks and adjust their priorities and dates to match your project. To go back to an ordinary mind map, click Work Breakdown again to turn the mode off.

💡 Tip: You can also break down a single topic in an existing map. See AI Work Breakdown.
Create a to-do list
Use To-Do when you want a short set of actions, such as preparations for a meeting or things to finish during the week.
-
In the Xmind home window, click Create with AI in the sidebar.
-
Enter the activities or responsibilities you want to organize.
-
Click the arrow next to Work Breakdown, then choose To-Do. The button changes to To-Do and the mode turns on.
-
Click Generate.
The result is a mind map organized into to-dos. You can edit the generated items and add anything else you need to do.
